Classification of LOD Levels

From conceptual design to finished design, LOD is defined in five levels, i.e. L0D 100 to LOD 500. In the practical application of BIM, the first task is to determine the LOD level according to the different stages of the project and the specific purpose of the project, and to determine the modeling accuracy according to the model accuracy requirements summarized in different levels.

1.LOD 100-Conceptual Conceptualization

This level is equivalent to the conceptual design, the model at this stage usually represents the building volume of the overall type of analysis of the building, including volume, building orientation, cost per square meter and so on.

2. Lod 200-Approximate Geometric Approximate Components (Program and Extension)

This level is equivalent to the schematic or preliminary design, and the model at this stage contains information on the number of approximations, sizes, shapes, positions, orientations, etc. contained in the universe system.

3.LOD 300-Precise geometry precise control components (construction drawings and deepening design construction drawings)

This level is equivalent to the deepening of the traditional construction drawing level and the improvement of the construction drawing level. The model at this stage should include information such as component attributes and parameters specified by the owner in the BIM submittal standard, and is already well used for cost estimating and construction coordination.

4. LOD 400-Fabrication Processing

The model at this stage can be used for fabrication and installation of model units, such as processing and fabrication of project components by specialty contractors and manufacturers.

5. LOD 500-Completed

The model at this stage represents the project as-built and will contain the complete set of component parameters and attributes developed in the Owner's BIM submittal instructions, and will serve as a centralized management database for integration into China State Construction Company's operations and maintenance social systems efforts.
